I’m going to be up-front: rather than limit myself to a handful of topics on this blog, this site will be a kind of stream of consciousness for me. For the past year or so I’ve been looking for a way to put thoughts into words to share with others. I had attempted to do so with art, only to realize (after a year and a half) that people didn’t particularly care for my work. Sure, they acknowledged the skill that went into my artwork, but they didn’t like the finished pieces themselves. And since I derived no pleasure from the creation of said artwork, I simply stopped creating it.
Which left me with the need to find another way to channel my ideas.
I gave podcasting a go, but finding an audience in such an arena is completely out of my wheelhouse and foreign to me. Plus the amount of production that needs to go into one just to sound good made it difficult to do on the fly, which is how I like to work. So keeping up a podcast, especially with only 1 or 2 listeners, didn’t seem like worth the effort either.
So here I am, giving blogging another try. I was one of the original bloggers (and by “one of” I mean one of millions, haha) from way back in the late 90s. I originally ran a Gillian Anderson fan site on Geocities, but at one point I added a little personal blog on the side which I supposed did well for the site (not nearly as well as pages featuring pictures of Gillian).
Quite frankly, I communicate best with the written word; after all, I was a screenwriting major in college (which I dropped out of). I value the writ language more than most, I see what current generations do with their texting and poorly-written emails as the beginning of the death of writing, not an evolution. To quote one of my favorite TV shows, Californication,
LOL this and LMFAO that. You know, it just seems to me it’s just a bunch of stupid people pseudo-communicating with a bunch of other stupid people at a proto-language that resembles more what cavemen used to speak than the King’s English.
I’m looking forward to sharing my thoughts on all manners of topics, such as the invasion of religion into American government, the stock market, and movies and TV shows. I’ll be experimenting with the form and functionality of this blog, from writing long essay-style articles to short tweet-like posts.
I think it’ll be fun and interesting, where this could go. Hopefully you’ll find it the same.
