I’m not going to go into how wrong it is to separate families, or the con #45 just pulled with his executive order today. What I’m going to do is actually in the best interest of Republicans, who are ironically the least likely to read this in the first place.
Let’s first summarize the GOP’s position re: immigration – they don’t want illegal immigrants, period. They’re taking jobs (the ones Americans don’t want), they’re costing the government money (not really), and they’re all criminals (except they’re not). So when Trump made moves to crack down on illegal immigration, naturally Republicans rallied behind it.
But then Keebler elf Jeff Sessions made a crucial mistake that no one seems to have caught: he declared that anyone caught illegally cross the border would be arrested and persecuted for doing so. “Great!” said all the Republicans, under the pretense that if you break the law by entering the country illegally, you should face justice for doing so.
And this is what everyone is missing
“Facing justice” in this country is a VERY EXPENSIVE endeavor. We’ve heard of the makeshift tent cities and warehouses being converted into holding areas for the surge in undocumented people, and that all COSTS MONEY. Walmart isn’t going to let the U.S. government have one of their empty buildings for free, even if Walmart isn’t using it; they’re going to RENT it to the U.S. government, and at a very inflated rate, because they can.
And then you have all the people required to man these places: guards, administrative staff, medical staff, support staff. All of these people are either government employees, who are VERY well paid, or employees of a government-contracted corporation, who charges VERY handsomely for their services.
And don’t even get me started on supplies! Did you know people EAT? And they use things like toilet paper? And require hygienic products, and if something happens to them, like they have a seizure, or they eat something they’re allergic to, then you have to buy them medicine and… it just goes on and on and on.
And what happens at the end of all this nonsense? Once the undocumented defendant is found guilty of illegally entering the country, what then? Why, they’ll end up in a United States prison, of course! Because, as stated clearly in 8 U.S. Code § 1325 – “Improper entry by alien”, the penalty for entering the country illegally is a fine of $50 to $250 (seriously). BUT THESE PEOPLE COME HERE BECAUSE THEY DON’T HAVE MONEY. And what do courts do to criminals who are unable to pay their fines?
THEY SERVE TIME.
And once they go to prison, these immigrants will cost more money with all the prison amenities, food, services, etc., that they will require.
Illegal Immigrants are getting exactly what the GOP wanted to deny them
Let me cut to the chase: IT’S COSTING MORE MONEY TO HOUSE AND “PROSECUTE” ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS THAN IT DOES TO FUCKING DEPORT THEM. Why are these people being held?? What is the fucking point of forcing them to go through a process that under GOOD conditions takes WEEKS to get through, when you can just turn around and fly them back home the next day?? And then you have the added costs of separating the families, of keeping track of individual people that are supposed to be together.
Republicans! Your plan to deal with illegal immigrants is costing you money! You think illegal aliens are a drain on society, you think they use up your tax dollars and want them gone so they don’t get the entitlements you pay for, BUT THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT YOU’RE GIVING THEM! Your tax dollars are going down the drain and you’re completely oblivious! Stop prosecuting illegal immigrants and SEND THEM HOME. Detaining them and charging them as criminals serves no other purpose than to WASTE YOUR MONEY and make the corporations that have our country bent over the barrel, richer!
